Judy R. Powell (Eblen) passed away at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital on Sept. 12, 2014 after a long battle with myeloid metaplasia.

Foremost in Judy's life was her joy in spending time with family and friends. Judy enjoyed making new friends and caring for her animals.

Judy was born Feb. 11, 1948 to parents, Ardath (Thompson), and Winfield (Windy) Eblen in Billings, Mont. The family traveled extensively during her father's military career. Judy's family settled in Billings, Mont., where she attended high school and met Don Carey II. They were married, moved to Bozeman and had two children, Shelly Carey and Don Carey III. Judy completed cosmetology school and opened the Beauty Bar in Bozeman. Judy was remarried in 1986 to Jack Powell. After selling her business, Judy worked as a nurse's aide, compassionately caring for the elderly until her retirement.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Don Carey II, and her two-year-old grandson, Jacob Frank. Judy is survived by her children, Shelly Carey and Don Carey, her husband, Jack Powell, and her grandchildren, Kaylenne Dues-Carey and Jaydon Frank, all of Bozeman.

Judy loved music, dancing, animals, and especially people. A special highlight of Judy's life was when she and her daughter made a trip to Memphis to visit Elvis Pressley's home at Graceland.

Judy taught us all what it means to love, laugh, and fight through life's difficult times. She will forever be in our hearts.

Services with a reception to follow honoring Judy's life will be held at Dahl Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at 2 p.m.

Judy's family wishes to extend special thanks to all of the staff at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital that was involved with her care, and to all of her very special neighbors for their care, friendships and prayers.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.dahlcares.com.
